Another fantastic Digital Ads Benchmark Report from the good folks at Tinuiti! See below for my summary/highlights of Q2 media trends and the comments for a link to access the entire report. TAKEAWAYS:📌 Acceleration in spending growth across most major ad platforms in Q2 2023 (screenshot below) with Instagram leading the way bolstered by new inventory sources and drops in CPM📌 WMT search spend continues to sore driven by last year's change to a second-price auction and an increase in ad efficiency 📌 93% of all Walmart search spend went to Sponsored Products in Q2 2023, with the remaining 7% attributed to Sponsored Brands. Opportunity exists for SB growth as adoption/growth is a bit lower 📌 Connected TV accounting for a large majority of the growth across Youtube/video spend with desktop decreasing

TikTok Shop is live in the US! Let's take a look at the promotions on there 👀Created a Seller account to see what's available to merchants to run offers on TikTok. Here are my quick notes:→Basic promo management (discounts, flash sales, vouchers, free shipping)→Nothing advanced / sophisticated; just punch in the discount ($ or %) and select your products→Pretty comprehensive toolset for running a business on TikTok (order management, product inventory, advertisem*nts, etc)→Nice "Academy" to show how it all works, though none of the pages were loading for meBut holy moly... There are already a TON of junk offers on here!! Lots of blatantly fake "discounts" and Flash Sales. It's QVC in portrait mode. Heaps of "dark patterns" and practices that are outright illegal in the European Union.Will be interesting to see how more mature brands build their presence on here. Obviously a massive opportunity and a watershed moment in ecommerce. But lots of junk and no guardrails in place to prevent sellers from misleading discounts.#TikTokShop

TikTok: Are retailers ready for the significant changes now?As of September 2, TikTok will no longer allow Shopify and other retailers to upload their products into TikTok and sell from the platform. Insight:TikTok wasn’t clipping the ticket, gaining margin from these sales. Enter the TikTok Shop. Retailers can operate within the TikTok Shop and upload their catalogue files and pricing - with the transaction occurring within the TikTok environment. The issue will be around data security. Will the Chinese platform TikTok share the volumes of units sold with strategic Chinese businesses that may become future competitors? #socialselling #marketing #retail #agencies
